Three Tricks to Reading Erotic Books in the Library Without Getting Caught

Reading an erotic book in a public library is a good way to get a lot of funny, sideways looks. But you shouldn’t have to deny yourself the pleasure of sitting in a comfortable seat in a quiet environment, surrounded by the whisper of books and the smell of paper and ink, while reading the pages of a new, titillating romance merely because others like to judge you for your choice of literature. No, reading at a library is a brilliant experience that shouldn’t be passed up merely because what you are reading happens to be an erotic book. If the malicious or judgmental looks bother you, though, you have a few options on how to proceed without being on the receiving end of the hairy eyeball.

 1. Hide your erotic book behind a newspaper. or textbook, or magazine.

It’s the old school-boy trick of hiding a comic book between the pages of his dictionary. Although this method may seem juvenile, it works. Just be sure to keep the size of your erotic book and the size of your magazine, textbook, or newspaper into consideration. Having your hiding book be just slightly larger than your erotic book tends to be the most comfortable. Beware though: this method only works with your back to a wall and with the books in a vertical position, which may become tiring to the arms.

 2. Read your erotic book on your e-reader device.

Sure, you want to read at the library for that hush- hush sound and the feel of all those books around you, but this is the modern age. Who says you can’t read your book on your Kindle, Nook, or iPad? An added bonus of using your e-reader is the extensive collection of online erotic books you can download right away. Most libraries are currently offering free wi-fiy, so if you finish a book, or just become bored, type “online erotic books” into your favorite search engine and you’ll find multitudes of new stories which you can (usually) download straight to your device.

 3. Read at a computer.

Perhaps you don’t own an e-reader, but you like the idea of online erotic books and your arms are aching from the strain of holding two heavy books in a vertical position. I don’t know of a single library not stocked with computers these days. Find the web browser, find yourself some online erotic ebooks, and read to your heart’s content. If you’re concerned about people walking by and looking at your screen, open up a separate tab with something dull like your email account and switch to that whenever somebody seems to curious about what you’re staring at so intently.
